Our Sub-Committees

Economic Development

The Economic Development committee works to address issues concerning commercial growth in the Marystown-Burin Area. Recent initiatives include Partnerships in Progress and a presentation to community business representatives by nationally-renowned marketing guru, Roy Prevost.

Community Pride

While the Community Pride committee has been part of many community-based projects and developments, it is most noted for its involvement with the Tidy Towns and Communities in Bloom programs. The Community Pride committee has had integral involvement in the development of such projects as the much used Jane's Pond and Landing Place Pond Walking Trails and Ville Marie Gardens in Marystown.

Our Adopt-A-Spot Program

Why Adopt?

People often take pride in watching their garden grow and bloom into something beautiful. Now there is an exciting opportunity to share that feeling and beauty with everyone while taking pride in your community.

The Adopt-A-Spot program, an undertaking of the Community Pride Committee, originated with the Marystown-Burin Area Chamber of Commerce in 1994. Its aim is to reduce litter and beautify open spaces in the Marystown-Burin area.

There are many great reasons to get involved. Participation in this program provides a great opportunity for friends, neighbors, organizations, and businesses to work together. It can be a great form of publicity, showcasing a business’s community involvement. Adopting a spot is also a great family summer activity. This initiative provides youth with the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while contributing to their awareness of our environment. The most important reason for getting involved is to keep our communities clean and create a healthier environment for our families and future generations to share.

How to Adopt Your Spot

To Adopt-A-Spot simply fill out an application and choose a spot you wish to adopt, or ask the Community Pride Committee to recommend a location that is in need of care. The spot can be almost any area that is visible to the public eye from a roadside. We recommend areas close to home or work for easy access to everyone involved.

Maintenance Involves:

Picking up litter

Cutting grass (approximately once every 3 weeks)

Planting shrubs, flowers, etc. (optional)

Adopt-A-Spot to keep the Burin Peninsula clean and at its best, and to take pride in our communities!

For more information or if you are interested in participating please contact the Marystown–Burin Area Chamber of Commerce at: (709) 279-2080 or drop by our office at 172 McGettigan Boulevard, Marystown.

Once your spot has been allocated you may erect your sign and start cleaning and maintaining your area. Once the initial work is completed limited effort is required to maintain your spot.

Finance

Under the guidance of the Treasurer, the Finance committee ensures the monetary stability and growth of the Marystown-Burin Area Chamber of Commerce through its many, often costly, community initiatives.

Membership

Membership is a key asset to the Marystown-Burin Area Chamber of Commerce. It is often said that the stronger a membership the chamber has, the better it can serve its members. The Membership committee works to ensure growth in the chamber's membership from year-to-year, while exploring new and innovative ways to enhance its immediate benefit to the community.

Tourism

This committee has seen extensive activity over the last number of years, particularly pertaining to the 2004 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games in Marystown, and the development of a new promotional partnership between the Burin Peninsula and the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.

Marystown-Burin Employment Services

This committee was put in place to guide the administration of Marystown-Burin Employment Services-- a partnership with Service Canada. Opened in May 2005, Employment Services works to enhance employment opportunities for local individuals and businesses.
